Today on OOM we’re celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year. My Lucky Little Dragon by Joyce Wan is an adorable board book that is perfect for introducing young readers to the characters of the zodiac. Whether your little one is a happy little horsey, a snuggly little lamb, or a brave little tiger, this book will have every parent saying, “I'm so lucky to have you!”
To mark the start of The Year of the Monkey, we’ve come up with a list of some of our favorite primate-themed reads:
Five Little Monkeys by Natalie Marshall (Ages 3 and under): Little ones will learn about the classic nursery rhyme and finger play of “Five little monkeys, jumping on the bed,” in this sweet board book.
Monkey and Duck Quack Up! by Jennifer Hamburg, illustrated by Edwin Fotheringham (Ages 4–8): Monkey and Duck are the best of friends, as different as odds and ends. This colorful picture book is filled with rollicking rhyme, comedy and charismatic characters that will capture young readers.
Bunny vs. Monkey by Jamie Smart (Ages 7–10): A team of scientists has sent a monkey into space! But...all does not go well with the flight, and Monkey's spaceship barely clears the first hilltop before crash-landing in a peaceful forest. Monkey decides this is a new world and claims it for his own. And his first decree is that all other animals should be banished! What follows is a series of hilarious, off-the-wall interactions between Monkey and the other forest animals.
Two-time National Book Award finalist Eliot Schrefer’s taut, heart-wrenching young adult series (Ages 12 and up) includes Endangered (2012), Threatened (2014), and the soon-to-be released Rescued (April 26, 2016), which all explore the relationships between humans and apes.
