February 1 was World Read Aloud Day, the day we celebrate the profound power of the read-aloud! For 10 years, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience, and read aloud. Here's how we celebrated this year:
We kicked things off with a live read-aloud event in our New York City headquarters for close to 200 NYC students that we also livestreamed. Classrooms around the country tuned in to watch authors Ross Burach, Sayantani DasGupta, Carmen Agra Deedy, and Peter Reynolds read aloud:
Later in the afternoon, we went live again! This time featuring read-alouds from our ELA and STEAM Clasroom Magazines editors:
We also shared lots of our brand new data from our Kids & Family Reading Report: The Rise of Read-Aloud:
This #WorldReadAloudDay, we're celebrating the good news from our #RiseOfReadAloud report: More parents are reading to their children from birth than ever before! See more of our findings: https://t.co/d9Kuf29yOZ pic.twitter.com/YCaZDNdhWU

We surveyed thousands of kids and families for our #RiseOfReadAloud report and learned that just about everyone loves sharing a read-aloud! Share a read-aloud with your loved ones today for #WorldReadAloudDay, and see more of our findings here: https://t.co/RNh50YusUA pic.twitter.com/CccvTdpVJu

This #WorldReadAloudDay make a commitment to keep the read-aloud going, even if your child is able to read independently! In our #RiseOfReadAloud report, the frequency of read-alouds drops significantly at age 6. But kids don't want it to stop! See more: https://t.co/jB7qHOFsjC pic.twitter.com/mB20KzY0pL

And we released a podcast episode all about the findings in The Rise of Read-Aloud:
More of our authors shared personal messages about why reading aloud is so important (see them all here!):
