Since 1967, International Children’s Book Day has been celebrated to “inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children’s books,” typically on or around author Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday, April 2. According to the newly released Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report™, 58% of kids ages 6–17 love/like reading books for fun and 40% want books that allow them to explore different places and worlds they have never been. Children’s books are a wonderful opportunity for exploration and today is a great day to celebrate discovery!
In this post, we’re revisiting select articles from Scholastic Classroom Magazines that feature beloved children’s book authors, highlight the importance of books and inspire kids to write stories of their own!
