I use a Costco sized sour

I use a Costco sized sour cream bucket to hold cell phones in class! It's pretty funny when kids have to put their phones in there.

The funniest (or craziest)

The funniest (or craziest) moment that ever happened in my classroom was two years ago on the day before my birthday. I was teaching with a really stiff neck so I wedged a portable heating pad in between my neck and my coat so I could teach and keep the heating pad in place at the same time. In the middle of an ELA lesson, my principal knocked on my door and said there was an emergency that needed to be taken care of right away, but then, my superintendent showed up behind her with flowers. At this point I was extremely confused, thinking that my fiancé sent me flowers for my birthday, but was wondering why my principal and superintendent walked them down to me. About 10 seconds later my superintendent congratulated me on becoming the new "Teacher of the Year"! What was even better was when one of my students told me that I looked "astonished" which made my day even better because that was one of our story vocabulary words of the week!

One year I had a student in a

One year I had a student in a wheelchair with very limited upper or lower limb mobility. He kept complaining that something was tickling his foot. After a few minutes I sat down on the floor in the middle of all my fifth graders to take his shoe off his sockless foot. I couldn't see anything that could be tickling him, so I put his shoe back on. This happened two more times! Finally I smacked the high top sneaker on the floor and to our astonishment a large black spider sauntered out! We all gasped but my student was more worried that I would kill the spider than the fact it was in his shoe.

This just happened two weeks

This just happened two weeks ago on a Friday...My kids are very well behaved and have taken well to our classroom routine (we've worked on it since the first day of school and continue to do so as reminders!). On this Friday afternoon, my fourth graders were particularly "spirited" by 1:00 and I told them they were going to turn my hair gray if they didn't behave. One of my cherubs replied, "My dad says that's why we're birth control!" I almost died trying not to laugh. I wasn't about to explain that one to 18 4th graders!

I live in south Louisiana and

I live in south Louisiana and at certain times of the year, we get green tree frogs everywhere! My classroom door opens outside to a courtyard. We had covered the door with paper for a decorating contest. The day came when it was time to take it down. I had the door open and the kids were in the room. I untaped the paper at the top and pulled it down the door. As I did, the green tree frogs that had gotten in between the paper and the door all jumped off and landed all over me - including in my hair. There were probably 30-40 of them!!!! I screamed, the boys all laughed, and the girls ran and tried to help me get them out of my hair. It was hilarious! Good thing I like frogs!!

I was out sick and one of my students came in and looked at the substitute teacher. Then he turned to my aide and asked who the person is. My aide said the teacher for the day since I was sick. He looked back at her and said, " I''m not staying!"
