It's National Volunteer Week! Established in 1974, this week has always been about working together, engaging people of all ages and backgrounds in communities, and inspiring social change—three things we can certainly get behind here at Scholastic.
We are so lucky to have wonderful partner organizations that have made it their mission to help others, whether it be through book donations, tutoring or mentoring services, or providing children with care and opportunities they otherwise wouldn't have. We call these partners Literacy Champions, and the title doesn't even begin to encompass all the great work they do.
You can learn more about our Literacy Champions by reading their stories here, and if you're looking for a way to pitch in this week (or any time for that matter!) check out our master directory to find an organization near you. We've got hundreds to choose from in every state, as well as a comprehensive list of international and national organizations. So, go! Get outside, get involved, help a person who needs it. Better yet, read to someone who wants to be read to.
