In less than a month, a selection of wonderful works by Tri-State area Gold and Silver Medalists from the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the nation’s longest running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative teens, will be on display at the Bronx Documentary Center.
This year marks the third annual Scholastic Awards National Medalist exhibition highlighting tri-state artists and writers, brought to you by the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and the Bronx Documentary Center. The exhibition will feature over 35 works of art and writing by tri-state U.S. based students who received national recognition in the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Aligned with the values of the Bronx Documentary Center, each piece of work featured within this one-of-a-kind exhibition received recognition in the Photography, Film & Animation and Writing categories. In addition, included in the exhibition is a selection of Gold Medal Award-winning works of writing spanning across genre.
This year, students from all five boroughs in grades 7–12 entered more than 12,000 works in 28 categories to the New York City regional program of the Awards, representing nearly 300 schools. Nationally, more than 100,000 students submitted over 300,000 works of art and writing to the 2023 Scholastic Awards. Nearly 2,200 works received a National Medal, which places National Award winners within the top 1% of all entries!
The exhibition will be on view from November 20–December 17, 2023, and is free and open to the general public during regular gallery hours. There will also be an opening reception for students, family members, educators and community members on Monday, November 20, starting at 4:30 pm with remarks, art-making stations, award-winning film screenings, exhibition tours, student performances, and giveaways.
