Just in time for the holiday break, 280,000 books will be going home with Fresno students in grades PreK- 8th. This book distribution, in collaboration with Scholastic, is part of the district's Every Child is a Reader literacy plan. This initiative is the sixth book giveaway in the district to take place over the past several years, and aims to support students’ reading over the holidays and help expand home libraries.
The Fresno-based Every Child is a Reader literacy plan provides each student in the district with five grade-level, culturally diverse books – available in both English and Spanish. Each book pack will also come with a student literacy skills journal and the “Family Guide to Literacy,” to help families support reading at home.
“No matter what time of year it is, it’s crucial for students to keep reading, find something that they love to read, and continue to talk about books,” said Patricio Dujan, Regional Vice President of Sales, Scholastic Education Solutions.
Research from the latest edition of the Scholastic Kids and Family Reading Report™, found that 96% of parents agree that every child needs to have books of their own at home.
