Eric Litwin, author of the original four Pete the Cat books and the new Groovy Joe musical series books, visited Jo Ann Ford Elementary School in Georgetown, TX to help celebrate and recognize the school as the winner of the Fall 2016 Scholastic Book Fairs National Elementary School Contest.
The semi-annual contest challenges schools to host the best book fair in the country by creating contests, developing advertising campaigns, hosting activities, and producing an original book fair theme. The contest aims to increase student interest and access to award-winning and popular books and encourages parent volunteerism at the fair.
To celebrate their accomplishment, Jo Ann Ford Elementary School kicked off their day celebration with a book parade complete with kids dressed as their favorite character from one of Eric’s books and literary favorites. Students marched down the school hallways, passing classroom doors that were decorated with student artwork inspired by Eric’s books.
After the parade, Jo Ann Ford Elementary students enjoyed an assembly featuring music by Eric Litwin, read alouds, and more! Scholastic Book Fairs also presented the school with a banner and oversized check for 2,000 Scholastic Dollars®.
Congratulations to Jo Ann Ford Elementary School students, parents, and staff on their award winning Book Fair!
