This week is WordGirl Appreciation Week – and we certainly have a lot of reasons to APPRECIATE (v., value, admire, respect) WordGirl! She is a definition dynamo who demonstrates daily that the word is mightier than the sword.
Here at Scholastic, we know literacy is of the utmost importance; WordGirl exhibits this in every episode by defeating villains who exemplify poor grammar with the power of her word knowledge. WordGirl shows viewers that having a big vocabulary and strong grammar skills helps them to read, learn, and speak out for themselves! We appreciate WordGirl for bringing that message to growing kids.
We also appreciate WordGirl’s passion for summer reading! In past years, she has served as the Ambassador for Scholastic’s Summer Reading Challenge. She encourages kids to get out their books and read – both to improve their literacy skills and to have fun! We appreciate WordGirl’s enthusiasm for summer reading, and are sure it extends to her young fans.
Finally, WordGirl is a leader for girl power! She shows that girls can be superheroes and defeat nasty villains. We appreciate that WordGirl serves as a strong heroine to young girls everywhere!
Celebrate WordGirl and everything we appreciate about her with new episodes all week on PBS KIDS (check local listings)! And be sure to visit her Facebook page every day this week for a new vocabulary word, featured in that day’s episode. Word up!
